Artist Statement
The work is inspired by Lai’s everyday experience on the MTR. The MTR is one of the most popular forms of public transportation in Hong Kong. The activities of people inside the train compartment can be seen clear at one glance due to the seat setting. Passengers of different ages, occupation, and status can appear at the same compartment, and each of them is of unique appearance, body language, and style, coming together to form a small society. This is a portrayal of our life nowadays.
